Oats are a great substitute for cereal and you can easily customize what you put in the base so you can mix it up throughout the week! Oatmeal, especially the slow-cooked kind, is generally healthier than processed cereals. Both are made from whole oats, but the difference comes down to processing. Unprocessed whole oats like those in steel-cut oatmeal, take a while for the body to digest.

The science behind this is similar to foods that contain sugars and carbs. We want to eat foods that don’t cause a spike in our blood sugar. We want to avoid foods that leave us with no energy for later. When you crash after the sugar spike, you’ll end up hungrier so you end up eating more for lunch.
